Cranberry – the name of plant from family of cowberry and its fruits.
The cranberry represents evergreen plant, bush with thin and low escapes. Length of escapes on average about 30 cm, berries of wild cranberry red, spherical, 8-12 mm in the diameter. Some specially removed grades have berries to 2 cm in the diameter. The cranberry in June blossoms, gathering berries begins in September and continues all fall. Plantatsionny berries ripen for 1-2 weeks before wild. Berries of cranberry can easily remain till spring.
The cranberry is eaten both in fresh, and in the frozen, soaked or dried view, from it prepare juice, fruit drinks, jelly, jam, kissels, cocktails and cranberry kvass, or added to salads, pies and other dishes.
The cranberry, grows in many countries if conditions allow, loves the marshy forest soil, osoko-sfagnovy bogs, tundra and moss bogs. About 22 grades of cranberry among which large-fruited grades meet diameter of berries up to 2 cm grow only in Karelia.
