The anode — (other — Greek — the movement up) a positive pole of a source of current (a galvanic cell, the electric battery etc.) or the electrode of some device attached to a positive pole of the power supply. Anode potential during the work of a source is positive in relation to cathode potential. At electrolysis processes (receiving elements from their solutions and fusions under the influence of direct electric current), the anode — the positive pole, on it occurs oxidation.
Anodes — plural of the word "anode"; this form is applied mainly in metallurgy where the anodes for a galvanics used for drawing on a metal layer product surface in the electrochemical way are used. The main distribution was gained by anodes from zinc (happen spherical, cast and rolled, the last are more often used), nickel, copper (from which separately distinguish copper and phosphorous, the AMF brands), cadmium (which application is reduced because of ecological harm), bronze, tin (are applied by production of printed circuit boards in the radio-electronic industry), an alloy of lead and antimony, silver, gold and platinum. Anodes from non-noble metals are used to increase of corrosion resistance, increases of esthetic properties of objects, etc. are more whole. Anodes from precious metals are used by galvanic production to increase of conductivity of products, etc.
